Houston – Most people think of Harper & Pearson Company, P.C. as a standard accounting and consulting firm but for Brian Bayewu it has become a hope for the future. Harper & Pearson has been a participating member of United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Greater Houston’s High School/High Tech program. The program’s goal is to help students with disabilities become independent, productive members of the technology-driven work force of the next century.  UCP works with a community-based partnership of parents, educators, rehabilitation professionals and business representatives to encourage students with disabilities to explore the fields of science, engineering and technology.

A junior at Westbury High School, Brian takes part in the co-op program that allows him to split his time between school and work. UCP placed him in the IT department of Harper & Pearson Company, P.C. because of his interest in computers. Brian lives below poverty level and does not own a car but he makes it to school and work every day using the public Metro.  The extraordinary thing about Brian is that he leaves at 6am every day getting home around 8pm, and yet he maintains a successful and positive attitude. After graduation Brian plans on applying what he has learned at Harper & Pearson Company, P.C. to an education in computer technology.

“You’ve never seen someone more proud than when [Brian] tells his classmates that he works for Harper & Pearson Company, P.C.  His confidence in himself and his abilities have grown tremendously since starting the program,” said Susana Mejia, Program Director of the High School/High Tech program at UCP of greater Houston. “Harper & Pearson has done wonders for this student!”

Harper & Pearson Company, P.C.takes an active role in the community by promoting philanthropy in the workplace. Employees are encouraged to be involved with local volunteer organizations and they are even given paid time off from work to do so.
